"Orthi Ammos" Beach
Our apartments are located in the village of Frangokastello on the south coast of Crete, in Sfakia province, 800m from the ancient Fortress.
The beautiful “Orthi Ammos” beach which stretches out below the cliffs in front of our apartments has received its name from the impressive sand dunes that surround it, it is one of the loveliest, natural beaches of Crete and is located east of the Fortress of Frangokastello. “Orthi Ammos” is a quiet, non- organised beach with golden sand and crystal, clear, shallow waters. Near the beach, you can also find a large amount of clay which is well- acclaimed for its beneficial effect on the skin. At the eastern end of the beach nudism is allowed for those who prefer it.
You can walk there following the short path through the sand dunes, either via a set of steps or by a convenient pathway in its western side. It is worth noting that the beach is leeward and even on days when the weather is windy its waters remain fairly calm.
Excursions
For a brief review of the past, unravelling the tangle of our history, we suggest you visit places within easy reach, such as the beach of Frangokastello under the imposing fortress, the castle of Frangokastello where you can learn about the mystery that surrounds it, Saint Nikitas church with its mosaics and the historic monastery of Saint Charalambos and its fortified walls.
The boat trips: Sfakia- Loutro- Agia Roumeli and Sfakia- Gavdos, are some interesting short excursions. For those who prefer a mountainous view, we recommend you visit the gorges of the surrounding area, such as the Samaria gorge, Imbros, Kallikratis, Asfendou, Aradena, etc., but also to follow the routes Frangokastello- Imbros- Askifou and Frangokastello- Imbros- Kallikrati- Asi Gonia- Argyroupoli.
Popular Activities
Apart from the bicycles that we provide, in the region you can also try out mountain biking, climbing, fishing etc. For extreme sports enthusiasts, diving, bungee jumping, paragliding etc. will lift adrenaline levels to their peak.
All the above have made Frangokastello a primary destination and thus it has obtained regular visitors.
